Department of Education Scholarships 2023
Year 12 students intending to undertake tertiary studies in 2023 are invited to apply for a Department of Education’s 2023 scholarship or grant program. The links for the applications are included in the descriptions below.
Scholarships for students aspiring to commence any tertiary study in 2023:
- the TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarship supports high academic achievers who have demonstrated leadership excellence to undertake any tertiary study in 2023.
- the Lambert McBride Perpetual Bursary provides a one-off grant for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student to assist with tertiary expenses for study in any discipline at a Queensland university.
Scholarships and grants for aspiring teachers:
- the Aspiring Teacher Grants support high-achieving secondary graduates from 2022 commencing an Initial Teacher Education course in 2023
- the Pearl Duncan teaching scholarships support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to gain an initial preservice teacher education qualification.

Univeristy of Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship
Value: $3,000 AUD per year
Open/Closing Dates: September 1, 2022 – November 30, 2022
The University of the Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships are intended to recognise, reward and encourage academic excellence.
Queensland University of Technology Budding Entrepreneur Bursary
Value: $1,500 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: October 3, 2022 – February 17, 2023
A bursary to support a student developing aspirations for entrepreneurial action by enrolling in the Diploma in Entrepreneurship at QUT College.
Griffith Widening Participation Scholarships
Value: Up to $4,400 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: August 1, 2022 – January 30, 2023
The Widening Participation Scholarships are for students who have experienced financial hardship and/or educational disadvantage that has impacted on their ability to achieve their full potential.
University of Queensland - Cairngorm-Kurrajong Scholarship Endowment
Value: At least $4,500 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: October 3, 2022 – November 21, 2022
Provides funds towards residential accommodation to students who are experiencing financial hardship.
Central Queensland University Cares Adam Scott Foundation Queensland Scholarship
Value: Up to $50,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: October 4, 2022 – January 30, 2023
The CQUniCares Adam Scott Foundation Queensland Scholarship will provide recognition and support to a deserving first year Queensland student who, without this support, would not be able to attend university. The successful recipient can be enrolled in any academic discipline and will receive support for the duration of their Bachelor course.
Australian Catholic University Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander – School of Business Scholarship
Value: $2,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: September 1, 2022 – March 1, 2023
This scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking an undergraduate degree within the School of Business at ACU.
University of Sunshine Coast - Gordon Malcolm Scholarship
Value: $20,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: September 1, 2022 – November 30, 2022
The Gordon Malcolm Scholarship supports undergraduate students undertaking studies in the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology or Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics that will lead to a career in helping others overcome health challenges through rehabilitation and exercise.
Queensland University of Technology - The Dalwood-Wylie Foundation Scholarship
Value: $5,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: November 1, 2022 – February 24, 2023
A scholarship to assist students from regional and remote areas to embark on studies in acting or drama at QUT.
James Cook University - Dr Peter Crossman Scholarship
Value: Up to $7,647 AUD per year
Open/Closing Dates: September 1, 2022 – January 5, 2023
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide students from diverse backgrounds (who may not have the capacity to pay full college fees) with the opportunity to reside at The John Flynn College.
Griffith - The Nellie Thomas Bursary
Value: $2,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: September 1, 2022 – March 6, 2023
The aim of the bursary is to assist an Indigenous student studying in the field of Medicine in the School of Medicine and Dentistry with additional cost associated with studying at university.
University of Queensland - The Bar Association of Queensland Scholarship
Value: $3,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: August 1, 2022 – February 17, 2023
The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support undergraduate students wishing to study law at UQ and experiencing financial disadvantage.
Central Queensland University - Cares GWI Scholarship
Value: Up to $5,000 AUD
Open/Closing Dates: October 4, 2022 – January 30, 2023
The CQUniCares GWI Scholarship will provide recognition and financial assistance to a deserving Bachelor’s degree student in financial need.
The Brisbane Fashion Month Emerging Designer Scholarship
Value: 50% Tuition Fee Reduction
Open/Closing Dates: October 24, 2022 – November 30, 2022
As part of Brisbane Fashion Month 2022, BFM and Billy Blue College of Design are offering an Emerging Designer Scholarship.
