Advent
On Sunday 1st December, we started the Advent season. This season we prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus. In modern times we use Advent Calendars to count down the days to Christmas. Recent trends on social media have people sharing the chapters from the Gospel of Luke. Luke’s Gospel has 24 chapters, one for each of the days in Advent. Reading a chapter a day in the lead-up to Christmas will allow us to truly be aware of who we are awaiting and the reason why.
Often, we forget about Jesus or struggle to keep Christ centred in the busyness of the Advent season. This Advent Calendar allows us to set aside five to ten minutes of our day to go through the life of Jesus from his incarnation to his death and resurrection, then to his ascension.
Prayer to end the year
Dear God,
As we come to the end of this school year, we thank you for your faithfulness and provision. We thank you for guiding us through the challenges and obstacles we faced, and for helping us to grow in knowledge and character. We thank you for the teachers and classmates who have supported and encouraged us along the way.
As we look back on the past year, we recognise our achievements and our failures. We pray that you will help us to learn from our mistakes and to continue to grow in wisdom and understanding. We pray that the lessons we have learned will stay with us and guide us in the future.
As we prepare to move on to the next phase of our academic or personal journey, we ask for your blessings and guidance. We pray that you would help us to discern Your will and to follow Your path, trusting in Your provision and protection.
We ask for your blessings upon our teachers and classmates, as well. We pray that you will guide and direct them in the next steps of their lives and that they will continue to grow in knowledge and faith. Keep us all safe over these holidays and allow us to encounter you during this Advent and Christmas season. Guide us back to Assumption College safely and prepared for what 2025 brings us.
Finally, we offer our thanks and praise to you for all that you have done and all that you will do. May your love and grace be with us always.
In your holy name, we pray, Amen.
